Houston, Texas - The University of Houston football team continued its preparation for its homecoming game against Southern Miss this Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. with a two-hour practice and conditioning work inside the UH weight room.
"We had a good practice today," Houston head coach Art Briles said. "We were really focused and had a lot of intensity throughout practice."
The Cougars enter Saturday's game after their final bye week of the season.
"We really needed it to recharge our batteries for the final stretch of the season," Briles said. "But, at the same time, I would have rather been competing in a game this time of year."
Briles and his team go into Saturday's game knowing that Southern Miss are playing their best football of the season.
"They have settled their quarterback situation and gotten more consistent on offense," Briles said. "Consistency on offense along with field position and turnovers may decide the outcome of the game."
Houston enters the game with a 5-3 overall record and 2-2 Conference USA mark and head into their final four games of the season hoping to play in a bowl game.
"We control our own destiny," Briles said. "We don't have to look for any help. If we win, we're in and if we don't, we're out. It's not going to be easy, but it's right there in front of us."
Following Saturday's game, Houston travels to Army on November 15 and Louisville on November 22 before closing out the regular season against UAB on November 29.
