Houston, Texas - Despite heavy rains throughout the area the University of Houston football team held a lively two and one-half hour practice inside the Yeoman Field House as the Cougars prepare for Saturday afternoon's game at Tulane.
Houston comes into the game on the heels of a convincing 27-13 win at East Carolina that was nationally televised by ESPN2 on Tuesday, September 30. Because of a change of format, the Cougars were able to enjoy a bye weekend.
"It was good to get a break," Houston head coach Art Briles said. "But, we have been back on our regular schedule this week and have really had a lot of energy and emotion this week."
Briles looks for the Green Wave's explosive offense to test Houston's second-ranked pass defense Saturday afternoon. Tulane ranks 12th nationally in passing offense with 308.2 yards per game. Quarterback J.P. Losman leads Conference USA passing with 308 yards per game,
"They have a quarterback who moves the ball around and is a great competitor," Briles said. "They also have an outstanding running back in (Mewelde) Moore. It will be a good test for us."
Houston enters Saturday's game at Tad Gormley Stadium with a 4-1 overall record and a 1-0 C-USA mark, while Tulane is 3-2 overall and 1-1 in C-USA play this season.
"We realize that we are going to have to keep growing and getting better," Briles said. "We are at a good pace and a good level, but there is still some growth in front of us."
