Middleton Earns Weekly League Honor

HOUSTON, Texas - University of Houston senior wide receiver Brandon Middleton (Houston, Texas) today was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office in Chicago, Ill. Middleton becomes the third Cougar to be honored so far in 2003, joining junior linebacker Lance Everson and freshman quarterback Kevin Kolb in the weekly accolades.
Middleton had five catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns in Houston's 27-13 win at East Carolina on September 30. For Middleton, it was his third straight 100-yard receiving game and his fourth this season. His scoring strikes were from 30 and 65 yards, the 29th and 30th receptions of his career that have covered 30 or more yards.
With his 27.3 yards per catch average, Middleton in ranked in the top five in the nation in this category. For the season Middleton has 19 receptions for 518 yards and six touchdowns, and his 103.6 yards receiving per game average is number one in Conference USA and 12th nationally.
Middleton also extended his reception streak to 32 straight games dating back to the 1999 season. His consecutive reception streak is currently the 10th best in the nation.
He became just the fifth player in UH history to eclipse 2,000 yards receiving in a career, and he currently has 101 receptions for 2,141 yards and 16 TDs.
This award marks the second time in Middleton's UH career that he has been honored by C-USA for his exploits on the field. On September 11, 2000, Middleton picked up player-of-the-week accolades after his eight receptions for 175 yards and two scores at LSU.
For the first time since the 2000 season, two Cougars have won offensive POWs in league action. That year Middleton and former running back Joffrey Reynolds were picked for the weekly award.
Linebacker Michael Boley and kick returner John Eubanks, both from Southern Miss, picked up the league defensive and special teams honors, respectively.
