HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team began preparations for this weekend's home contest against Conference USA rival TCU with a solid workout Tuesday afternoon.
Working out for more than two hours at the UH practice fields, the Cougars will play host to the 13th-ranked Horned Frogs at 7 p.m., Saturday at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
The Cougars (5-2, 2-1 C-USA) come into the game on the heels of a 45-14 loss to league rival Memphis last weekend at Robertson Stadium in the first home loss of the year for UH. Following Tuesday's workout, first-year head coach Art Briles said he was proud of the way that his team rebounded in practice.
"We're not going to look around and find someone to feel sorry for us. We had an opportunity and didn't take care of it," Briles said. "Now we have another one and a chance to redeem ourselves."
While disappointed by last weekend's loss, Briles said it was important for the Cougar players and coaching staff to approach the TCU game as any other home contest and not tinker with things.
"The boat isn't taking in a lot of water," Briles said. "We're still in good shape, so we are going to keep doing what got us here. It's what we believe in, so there is no reason to change."
TCU (7-0, 4-0 C-USA) enters this weekend's game ranked No. 15 in the latest Associated Press poll and No. 13 in the recent Coaches' Poll. While that may be some incentive for the Cougar players, Briles said that he and his coaching staff are focusing more intently on their own team.
"We're playing us right now. We need to make sure that we take care of us," Briles said. "If we take care of our business for 60 minutes, then we will see where the chips are laying Saturday night."
