HOUSTON - University of Houston diver Yulia Pakhalina was honored for the fifth time this season as the Conference USA Diver of the Week.
The Penza, Russia, collected the honor for the third straight week and the 10th time during her distinguished career. It also marked the sixth straight week that a UH diver won the award as freshman Azul Almazan claimed the prize on Nov. 18.
Pakhalina captured first place on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events during a road trip through north Texas last weekend. Against SMU, she set a new UH season-best with 378.95 points on the 1-meter board and followed that with a score of 366.65 points on the 3-meter board.
She was the only diver to top the 300.00-point mark in each event. In addition, Pakhalina extended her winning streak on the 3-meter board to 28 consecutive events and collected the 55th and 56th diving wins of her career in only 58 outings.
Pakhalina and her Cougar teammates wrap up the regular season this weekend with a pair of NCAA dual meets. The Cougars travel across town to meet Rice at 7 p.m., Friday at the Rice Pool. From there, UH heads north to meet Texas A&M at 3:30 p.m., Saturday in College Station, Texas.
