HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming and diving program will enjoy a busy weekend with a pair of dual meets in north Texas.
The Cougars (3-4) open the road trip against Conference USA rival TCU with a 7 p.m. meet Friday in Fort Worth, Texas. From there, UH will head to Dallas to compete against SMU at 1 p.m. Saturday.
UH heads into the weekend on the heels of a tough 131-93 loss to LSU last weekend in its last home dual meet of the season. In that meet, senior diver Yulia Pakhalina swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events to mark her 53rd and 54th consecutive wins in 56 all-time outings.
The only diver to score more than 300.00 points in both events, Pakhalina was honored as the C-USA Diver of the Week for the fourth time this season and the ninth time in her illustrious career.
Against the Tigers, senior swimmer Falon Hopkins walked away with a pair of first-place finishes in her final home meet. This season, the Houston native has posted the fourth fastest time in C-USA in the 100-yard butterfly and tops the Cougars in three individual events.
Freshman Stacey Williams, already a two-time C-USA Swimmer of the Week honoree during her first season, tops the league with the fastest time in the 200-yard freestyle and is leading the Cougars in four individual events this year.
TCU comes into the meet with an 11-1 record in dual meets this year and has compiled a 5-0 mark against C-USA foes.
