HOUSTON - For the fourth time this season, University of Houston diver Yulia Pakhalina was named Conference USA Diver of the Week on Tuesday.
Competing in her final home meet of the year, Pakhalina swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events in an NCAA dual meet against LSU last weekend.
The Penza, Russia, native scored 377.03 points to win the 3-meter event and posted a score of 337.20 points to capture top honors on the 1-meter board.
She was the only diver to score more than 300.00 points in each event.
With those wins, Pakhalina collected her 52nd and 53rd career wins in only 56 collegiate outings. She also extended her winning streak on the 3-meter board to 27 consecutive events.
Pakhalina earned the league's weekly award for the fourth time this season and the ninth time in her illustrious career. It was also the fifth consecutive week that a Cougar diver received the honor as freshman diver Azul Almazan grabbed the award on Nov. 18.
Pakhalina and her Cougar teammates return to action with a pair of NCAA dual meets this weekend in north Texas. The Cougars start their trip at 7 p.m. Friday as they faced Conference USA rival TCU and conclude with a 1 p.m. meet Saturday against SMU.
