Swimming & Diving Prepares for Last Home Meet

HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming and diving program will say goodbye to four student-athletes and their home facility this weekend.
The Cougars, who play host to LSU in a 4 p.m. dual meet at the UH Natatorium, conclude their 2003 home schedule. Following Friday's meet, only four meets on the road and the Conference USA postseason and NCAA postseason remain on the schedule.
The program will say goodbye to four student-athletes who have made vast contributions during their stays at UH. Seniors Falon Hopkins, Yulia Pakhalina, Veronica Smith and Jessica Blake will be recognized in ceremonies before the meet.
Friday's meet should be a festive atmosphere with UH cheerleaders and members of the pep band performing. The meet is free open to the public, which is invited to attend.
Friday's meet will also mark the end for the UH Natatorium. In 2003-04, the Cougars will move into t heir new home, the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. The $51 million facility is scheduled to be completed this spring and will give the Cougars the longest pool in the state of Texas.
