Houston, Texas - The University of Houston volleyball team will begin its campaign for a 21st consecutive winning season this Friday at the Lamar Cardinal Classic in Beaumont, Texas. The Cougars will face four teams -- two of them for the first time ever -- over the two-day road stand.
The Cougars, who posted a 16-11 record last year, will open the season against Centenary at noon and will face Louisiana Tech at 4 p.m. on August 30. Competition will continue Saturday morning as UH battles Southeastern Louisiana at 10 a.m. and host Lamar at 7 p.m.
UH, which was picked to finish fifth in Conference USA this season, is led by All-C-USA Preseason Team selection
Transfers and Houston natives Laura Koster (Syracuse) and Annesia Crawford (Arkansas) will make their debut for the hometown team and will add depth and experience to the lineup.
The Cougars have another rigorous schedule this season, hosting only 10 of their 30 matches at Hofheinz Pavilion. UH will face Lamar again in its home opener September 10 at 7:30 p.m. UH will also compete against defending national champion Stanford, No. 4 Hawaii, and No. 7 Florida in September.
