2002 Recruiting Class Best in Cougar History

Houston, Texas - The 2002 recruiting class of the University of Houston's women's soccer team was recently ranked in the Regional Top 25 and National Top 50 by Soccer Buzz Magazine. The magazine ranked this year's Cougar class No. 7 out of 65 teams in the Central Region and No. 42 in the nation. This is the highest ranking of any Cougars soccer recruiting class.
The 2002 recruiting class is made up of eight signees, including seven freshmen and one transfer. Head coach Bill Solberg has high hopes for the class, as it replaces 10 seniors from the 2001 squad.
Leading signee and Clemson University transfer Alison Sinclair of Milwaukee, Wisc., will be a key defender this year. The Tigers finished 19-3-1 last year and maintained a top ten national ranking.
Julie Cole (Lumberton, Texas-Lumberton H.S.) is a 5-4 midfielder or forward who is one of the leading scorers in the greater Houston area and a former member of the South Texas Olympic Development Team. Kelly Golden (Kingwood, Texas-Kingwood) is a 5-4 midfielder and a member of the 2002 state championship team.
Sara Hemmer (Carrolton, Texas-Creekview) was also recruited by SMU, Baylor, and Texas Tech, but chose to join Houston's 2002 recruting class. Las Vegas native Meghan Moreo (Bishop Gorman) will add strengh to the Cougar's defensive side.
Midfielder/defender Beth Outlaw (Dover, Fla.-Blackwatch Stirling) was Florida's high school leading scorer in 2001-02 with 18 goals and 23 assists. Goalkeepers Erin Ferguson (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glen Ellen West) and Sarah Webster (Indianapolis, Ind.-Hamilton Southeastern) will compete for the starting position.
