Cougar Softball Splits Double Header With Billikens

Saint Louis, Missouri - The Cougars (29-20, 6-10) split their games with the Billikens of Saint Louis(21-22, 5-13) on Saturday. Houston won the first game and Jamie Falco threw her first no-hitter of the year, closing down the Billikens 6-0. The second game got away from the Cougars loosing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning on a hit by Nicole Bohnenstiehl.
The Cougars grasped the lead by one in the second, scoring Kristen Glowacz on a sacrifice fly by Kim Nesloney to right field. Leading 1-0, the Cougars went into the second inning and added their second run hit in by Riane Netardus. Leslie Seay was the scoring run, scoring from third after her triple to right centerfield.
Doubling the score in the fifth, the Cougars took a solid lead 4-0. Netardus led-off the inning with a bunt-single, stole two bases and was brought in by Ray Ferreris. Glowacz was responsible for the second RBI hitting in Ferreris from second.
In the top of the sixth, Houston scored two more runs off of hits by Ali McDougall and Ray Ferreris (FC) to put the Cougars up by six. Houston held strong through the remainder of the game and took their sixth conference win of the year. Falco threw thirteen strikeouts in only two more than the minimum number of batters faced.
Falco started the second game of the day for the Cougars. The Cougars scored their first run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Ali McDougall scoring Lindsay Durham. The Billiken's countered the Cougar's run with one of their own in the bottom of the inning, tying up the score 1-1.
Two walks and a fielders choice loaded the bases for Nicole Bohnenstiehl's game winning hit. Bohnenstiehl also earned the win on the day for the Billiken's.
Houston will take on Saint Louis for the third game of the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm.
