Golf Jumps into Seventh Place at Las Vegas Collegiate

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The University of Houston golf team used another steady performance Saturday during the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate to jump into seventh place.
The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes, scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. (Central) on the 7,382-yard, par-72 course at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
All five Cougar golfers finished at even-par or 1-over-par to post the third lowest team score on the day with a 289 and stand with a total score of 585 after 36 holes. Scott Ferguson showed the most improvement from his first round score after firing an even-par 72 Saturday, seven strokes better than his first round mark.
Brad McIntosh, the 2001 Conference USA Tournament individual champion, and Brett Callas joined Ferguson on the Saturday scoreboard at even-par 72. Simon Robinson, the C-USA Golfer of the Month in October and newcomer Daniel Angenscheidt fired 1-over-par 73s in the middle round.
Robinson and McIntosh top the team with two-day scores of 145 to tie for 18th place. Callas was tied in 27th place at 147, Angenscheidt stood in a tie for 37th place at 149 and Ferguson was tied for 53rd place with a score of 151.
Georgia Tech stood atop the leaderboard with a score of 563, seven strokes better than second-place Georgia. Host UNLV, Florida, Clemson and North Carolina State rounded out the top five leaders.
Individually, Camilo Villegas of Florida was in first place at 137 to stand one stroke better than Ryan Hybl of Georgia. Georgia Tech's Troy Matteson and Nicholas Thompson placed third and fourth, respectively, after the second round.
