Cougar Soccer Hosts Annual Tournament -The Cougar Clash

Houston ,Texas - This spring the Cougars have four remaining dates on which they can take the field against some quality opponents from around the city, state and region. The spring season is only exhibition and does not count towards your overall record. However, it is a valuable time when you are able to play against great teams and gain much needed experience for the young Cougars who lost 10 seniors this past fall.
The weekend after the students return from spring break on March 16th and 17th, the Cougars will host the 2nd annual Cougar Clash. A weekend event held at Robertson Stadium and the Carl Lewis International Complex. This year's participants include three university programs and eight youth club teams. The event features some of the top club teams in the nation as three of these teams are ranked in the top 25 nationally. The Houston Challenge from Spring, Texas is currently ranked 7th in the country. Followed closely by the Dallas D'Feeters at 21st and the Dallas Sting at 22nd. Another local team, the Sugar Land Eclipse is ranked 14th in the South Region. The Oklahoma Fury is the runner up to the Oklahoma State Champion. Also participating are the Texas Wave from Kingwood, who were the State Champions last year for South Texas. Two more teams from Houston will round out the field of club teams, the Wildfire club is an up and coming team from south Houston and the West University program will also take part.
The universities participating include: UH, Rice University, and University of the Incarnate Word hailing from San Antonio. Rice finished off a great first year by finishing second in the Western Athletic Conference. They were also recognized by SoccerBuzz.com as the second best 1st year program in the nation. University of the Incarnate Word, a division two program, lost in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals to UC-San Diego. Come out and see the Cougars and other local teams over the St. Patrick's Day weekend!!! Admission is free to all games.
Following the Cougar Clash the team will tentatively be off until Sunday, April 7th when they travel to Rice University and participate against youth club teams from West University and Austin. Times are yet to be announced but will be posted as they are determined. The Cougars will have one final date for games this spring. That information will be posted as it becomes available.
