Pakhalina Looks For 33rd Straight Win

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.---Looking for her fourth Conference USA title in two years, All-American Yulia Pakhalina easily qualified for the three-meter diving finals this evening with an impressive performance earlier this morning. She will be joined in the finals by teammates Lindsey Harvey and Veronica Smith, who finished in the top eight as well.
Also this morning in the preliminaries freshman Victoria Blocker and sophomore Lucile Turpin qualified for the finals in the 400-yard individual medley, while seniors Elissa Nelson and Linda Osborne and sophomore Brittney Dye will compete in the consolation finals in the same event.
In the 100-yard butterfly junior Falon Hopkins posted the third-best qualifying mark at 57.21, thus qualifying for the finals this evening. Her teammates, freshman Kristen Eaves and sophomore Corrie Phares, will compete in the consolation bracket of the 100 butterfly.
Junior Jessica Blake and Bay both qualified for the finals in the 100-yard backstroke, while Blocker and Dye both will compete in the consolations in this event. Finally, senior Stacey Ebeling will try for the conference title in the 100-yard breaststroke after posting a 1:05.66 in the prelims. Freshman Carolina Burakowski will face seven others in the breaststroke consolations.
Blake and freshman Kristin Douglass will compete in the consolation final of the 200-yard freestyle. The Cougars will also take part in the 200-yard medley and the 800-yard freestyle relays in the finals-only events.
