UH Swimming & Diving Defeated By Arkansas

HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming and diving team was defeated by the University of Arkansas, 132-104, Saturday in a NCAA dual meet at UH Natatorium.
The Lady Razorbacks won 9 of the 13 events en route to their fifth straight victory over the Cougars dating back to the 1997-98 season.
Senior diver Yulia Pakhalina continued her winning ways with a pair of victories on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards. The Penza, Russia, native led all divers with 721.28 points with Houston's Azul Almazan placing second in both events with a total score of 565.95.
With those wins, Pakhalina now has won 43 of 44 of the last diving events in which she has entered and been victorious in all 21 diving competitions on the 3-meter board during her collegiate career.
Houston swimmers swept the 100-yard breaststroke event with Tatjana Banjeglav placing first with a time of 1:12:09. Falon Hopkins rallied for a second place finish (1:13 .20) and Laura Starr came in a close third (1:14.09). Hopkins also was strong in the 50-yard freestyle event, placing second (24.94) behind Arkansas' Peggy Stoner (24.86).
Freshman Stacy Williams continued to impress with a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly event, finishing in :58.63. Arkansas' Zsuzsa Csobanki won the event with a time of :58.43.
The Houston 400-yard freestyle relay team of Williams, Hopkins, Kristen Bay and Shawn Tolliver wrapped up the meet with a win, placing first with a time of 3:41.
The Cougars, who are 1-2 in dual meets in 2002, will host Louisiana-Monroe in a dual meet in the UH Natatorium Nov. 16 at 11:30 a.m. Houston divers will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., Nov. 9 to compete against Tennessee and Miami in a diving-only meet.
