Swimming and Diving Concludes Stay in Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Houston swimming and diving team wrapped up its two-day visit to Nebraska with a fourth-place finish Saturday at the Husker Invitational.
The Cougars collected 499 points during the event to finish behind host Nebraska and Drury. Nevada took top team honors with 855 points.
Senior diver Yulia Pakhalina continued her winning ways with a pair of victories on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards. She was the only diver to score more than 300 points on the1-meter board and dominated the 3-meter event. The Penza, Russia, native earned 620.35 points to finish more than 130 points ahead of second-place finisher and teammate Azul Almazan, collected 490.85 points.
With those wins, Pakhalina has now won 40 of the last 41 diving events in which she has entered and been victorious in all 19 diving competitions on the 3-meter board during her collegiate career.
Although no Cougar swimmer won an event, freshman Stacey Williams continued to impress with a pair of second-place finishes. The Perth, Australia, native was only a half-second off the lead in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.82 and earned a similar finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.79.
Junior Lucile Turpin posted a time of 4:37.06 in the 400-yard individual medley to finish third.
The Cougars return to the friendly confines of UH Natatorium next week for a pair of NCAA dual meets. UH plays host to Rice at 4 p.m. Friday and wraps up their busy weekend with a 1 p.m. showdown against Arkansas on Saturday. All meets are open to the public at no charge.
