Eddy's opening statement:
I felt like we went into the game with a good game plan to run the ball and set up the pass. We accomplished that early, starting off with three or four straight runs that opened up the passing game. Even though it was wet and we were concerned about that, we executed the plays we needed. We did a good job of following our game plan and it was good to see our offensive line open up some big holes for Joffrey Reynolds and Chris Robertson. They both ran the ball really well. The receivers did what they had to do and I just got them the ball.
Speaking of the running game, since the running game is doing so well, that has to give you more confidence in the passing game. What are you thoughts on this?
It gives me more confidence because it allows me to not have to worry about making every single pass right on the money. It we don't get it on first or second down then we can run the ball; I know Joffrey Reynolds and Chris Robertson can get the first down. It gives the quarterback more confidence when he knows he doesn't have to throw the ball every time for a first down.
How does it feel to have your first Division I win under your belt? Do you think this win will pull this team closer for the remainder of the 2002 season and help the players to stay more focused?
Obviously it feels great to have my first conference win, like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I think that any time you win, whether it is your first, second or third, the team gains confidence. If we can just stack a few wins together and keep this thing rolling along, then we can gain a lot more confidence. Who knows what can happen from there.
Coach Dimel has done a great job of bringing this team along. Does the team feel good about their chance to win out the second half of their season and go to a bowl game?
We feel very good, especially with what is going on in Conference USA. There is no clear-cut winner this year. The teams are beating each other and knocking each other out. The team is confident that we can run the table and win out, but we have to continue to have good practices and execute our game plans.
Hey Nick, this is your boy Reggie again! How does it feel getting your first Conference USA win and how do you feel about Memphis?
Again, it feels great. Memphis took it to us last year with their no-huddle offense, but I think this year we will be more prepared. Memphis is defiantly a team we feel we can beat.
