HOUSTON - University of Houston middle hitter Jenny Tanneberger was named Conference USA Co-Player of the Week for the period ending October 13.
With a 41-kill performance against Saint Louis, Tanneberger (San Antonio-Univ. of Texas) set a school record, while also tying the C-USA record and the NCAA Division I match high for 2002. Against the Billikens, she tallied a .493 hitting percentage with only six errors, while adding nine digs and four blocks. In a win over Memphis, she posted 12 kills and only three errors. Tanneberger finished the weekend with a total of 53 kills and only nine errors for a .396 hitting percentage. She also averaged 5.3 kills per game.
Tanneberger shares the honor with Saint Louis' Colleen Hunter, who posted two outstanding matches in leading the Billikens to two league wins this weekend. She claimed a school record 27 kills in a three-match victory over TCU, while hitting .408. She notched a triple-double against Houston with 30 kills, 15 digs and 10 blocks. For the week, she tallied 57 kills for a .386 hitting percentage, while adding 24 kills and 14 total blocks.
This is the second time Tanneberger has been honored with the Conference USA Player of the Week Award. She was named Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 8, 2002, after earning All-C-USA First-Team Preseason honors. Tanneberger was a 2001 First-Team All-C-USA selection in her first year as a Cougar after transferring from the University of Texas.
The Cougars (11-5, 2-1 C-USA) will host two matches this week at Hofheinz Pavilion. After a 3-1 defeat on Sept. 7, cross-town rival Rice will visit Thursday for a non-conference battle. TCU will also look for a win against Houston Friday at Hofheinz. Match times are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
