Cougars Open Conference USA Schedule At Saint Louis

Houston, Texas - The University of Houston men's basketball team will open its 2001-02 Conference USA schedule with two straight road games. The Cougars will play at Saint Louis on January 5 and at Tulane on January 8 before returning home and play 2000-01 defending regular season champion Cincinnati on January 12.
Saint Louis also opens its C-USA schedule against the Cougars and are 6-7 overall this season.
The Teams Houston enters the Saint Louis game seeking its seventh win of the season and looking to win its second straight game after defeating Tennessee State, 91-60, on December 30. The victory over Tennessee State snapped a two-game losing streak after Houston suffered a 67-66 last second loss against North Carolina State on December 23, and a 73-69 defeat at LSU on December 20. The Cougars had won five of their previous six games prior to the LSU game.
Prior to the LSU loss, Houston beat Southwest Texas State, 89-62, on December 16. The victory over Southwest Texas State came after the Cougars dropped a 71-64 decision against Texas Tech in the Gallery Furniture college basketball doubleheader at the Compaq Center. Houston won its four previous games over Chaminade (76-73), Rice (62-61), North Texas (75-69) and Texas Southern (82-79).
Meanwhile, Saint Louis will be looking for its fifth win in the last seven games after suffering a 53-50 loss at Southwest Missouri State on January 2. The Billikens beat Washington, 71-70, on December 29 in St. Louis. They also beat Denver (63-49 on December 9), Southeast Missouri State (88-62 on December 15) and Furman (73-59 on December 19) before suffering a 69-63 loss at Dayton on December 22.
