HOUSTON, Texas - For the first time in school history, the University of Houston swimming and diving team will play host to a Conference USA dual meet when it faces TCU in a 7 p.m. showdown Friday at the UH Natatorium.
Friday's meet will be the first of two straight home dual meets on consecutive nights as UH faces SMU at noon Saturday.
All UH meets are free and open to the public, which is invited to attend.
The Cougars (2-8) come into the meet on the heels of a tough 149-88 loss to crosstown rival Rice on Saturday.
Despite the loss, several Cougars shined with their performances. Sophomore Lucile Turpin finished third in the 200-yard freestyle and the 400-yard individual medley but set a new personal season best in the former event and a new UH season best in the latter events with her times.
In addition, senior Elissa Nelson has established herself as the team's long distance swimming leader.
This season, Nelson has posted team season bests in the 200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, 800-yard freestyle, 1000-yard freestyle and 1650-yard freestyle events.
In the diving competitions, sophomore Yulia Pakhalina looks to extend her 25-event winning streak. The Moscow, Russia, native has never lost a collegiate diving event in just more than one season at UH and has already been named C-USA Diver of the Week three times.
TCU enters the meet after losing at East Carolina 135-102 on Saturday.
