Cougars Fall To 12th At NCAA Central Regional Championships

Stillwater, Okla. - The University of Houston golf team fell back into 12th place at the rain-delayed NCAA Central Regional Championships in Stillwater, Okla. on Friday afternoon.
The Cougars shot a 21 over par 304 on Friday afternoon to fall from eighth place to 12th place with a two-day total score of 597. The Cougars are 19 strokes back the College of Charleston who had a two-over par 287 score on Friday and leads the tournament with a two-day total of 578.
Oklahoma is second with a two-day total of 584. The first round leader, Kent State, fell to third after shooting 296 as a team on Friday, and enters the final round one stroke back of Oklahoma at 585. Minnesota and Texas A&M are tied for fourth with a 589 score, while Purdue is one shot back in fifth place.
The host school, Oklahoma State, is in seventh place with a score of 593 after the Cowboys shot 301 on Friday. Baylor is eighth with 594 and North Carolina and Augusta State are 10th with 595. Tulsa is 11th with 596 and Houston is tied with Toledo at 597.
SMU fell back to 16th with a 599 score after shooting a combined score of 300 on Friday and Texas is 17th with a 600 score after shooting 306 on Friday.
Oklahoma's Martin Flores is the individual leader with a four-under-par total of 140 after shooting 70 both days. Kent State's Jon Mills and Sean Howell are tied for second with John Klauk of Texas with a two-day score of 141.
Houston senior All-American Andy Sanders is tied for 13th with a two-day score of 145 after he shot a one-under 71 to lead the Cougars on Friday. Sanders opened the tournament at two-over par on Thursday. The Cougars' Brad McIntosh fell all the way back to 86th with a two-day total of nine-over par (153) after he shot 81 on Friday. McIntosh, who is the Conference USA individual champion this year, opened the tournament with an even par 72 on Thursday.
Simon Robinson is tied for 18th after two days with a two over pare 146 after shooting a consistent 73 both days.
But, Conference USA champion Brad McIntosh shot a nine-over 81 after shooting an even par 72 on Thursday. Scott Ferguson had a seven over 79 on Friday and enters Saturday's final round tied with McIntosh at 153. Wade Ormsby shot an 83 on Friday and has a two-day total of 158.
The Central Regional was delayed by nearly two hours due to heavy rains in the Stillwater area on Thursday night.
