HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Houston volleyball team looks to return to its winning ways when it faces DePaul in a 7:30 p.m. match Friday at Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Cougars come into the match after a disappointing 3-2 loss to Conference USA rival TCU on Tuesday. While UH lost its first C-USA home match in six outings to date this season, the team has still won eight of its last 10 matches.
Against the Horned Frogs, senior outside hitter Jennifer Wittenburg led all players with 26 kills and 18 digs for her 15th double-double of the season and the 32nd of her UH career. Jane Anne Karasek also added 10 kills and 12 digs for her seventh double-double during the 2001 campaign.
Junior middle hitter Jenny Tanneberger has also emerged as one of the Cougars' most consistent offensive threats this season. The San Antonio, Texas, native's .339 attack percentage is tops on the squad by more than 80 points and would rank as the third-highest total in school single-season history.
Both teams have posted 10-4 C-USA records to date this season, so Friday's match will play an important role in determining seeding for next week's C-USA Tournament at Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Blue Demons, who have won three of their last four matches, come into Houston after taking a 3-2 road victory at East Carolina. In that match, Lara Marks led three DePaul players in double-digits with 14 kills, while Katie Engel came off the bench to top the team with 21 digs.
Stephanie Bishop leads DePaul on the season with 398 kills and 339 digs.
The Cougars conclude their 2001 home season schedule when they play host to Marquette in a 7 p.m. match Saturday at Hofheinz Pavilion. Seniors Jennifer Wittenburg and Gabi Carbone will be honored for their contributions to the Cougar program in pre-match ceremonies.
