Houston, Texas - Coach Dimel's synopsis of the season:
"We have to make some evaluations of how to get out of our slump at 0-5, so we can get our football team back on track. We are not going to make excuses. What I've heard from a pro scout that I am friends with is that, we guys aren't loosing games you are just not winning them. We have a lot of young guys, we only have three guys that before last season have started any football games or have any extended starting experience. Looking at that you can see what we are dealing with right now. That leads us to where we are: playing as hard as we can but not finding ways to get those victories on the slate."
"We are not balanced enough between special teams, offense and defense to win games. Defensively we are very young, there is not a great amount of experience."
"We have to find a way to not fall down in the beginning of the game. I n the last four games we have gone down 10-0 from the start. We have to find a way to get on the board early and possibly first."
Coach Dimel on defense:
"I think that the experience is not there. I think that they talent is, They will develop into those outstanding players, but they need the experience to do that. All of these guys are first year starters. It is going to take time and games for them to get better. We just have to find the right mixture of what we need during a game."
Coach Dimel on offense:
"I'm real pleased with what our offense is doing. Nick (Eddy) came in and the offense didn't miss a beat. We have a lot of different weapons on offense. All five games we had 7-9 different players catching the ball during the game. I've been pleased with how the offense has done when you compare us to other teams that have first year starters at quarterback. I think our offense is getting better as a whole."
On Nick Eddy's play this past weekend:
"I was really pleased with the way he was audibly and the way he handles the system. His first four series was the only time that we saw nerves Then in his last seven series we scored five touchdowns. Nick did a great job handling things and running the system for a first time starter. Something else that he did well was getting the ball to some of the real good players around him."
"We need to get the ball around the goal line as much as possible and be able to run the option. Nick can run the option pretty well, even though he is a bigger guy. It was nice to get a touchdown off of the option for a change."
On differences between players he recruited and players that were recruited by Coach Helton:
"That has not been a great concern. After I have played with these guys this long I feel like I have recruited them. We have some great players, there are just not enough of them. Anytime you take over a program there is going to be the mixing of philosophies. Coach Helton and I had completely different philosophies and personalities and we did different things."
