Houston, Texas-- - Heavy rain and lightning forced the University of Houston football team indoors Thursday as the Cougars wrapped up preparation for Saturday night's game against Memphis.
Despite moving indoors, Houston head coach Dana Dimel continued getting junior college transfer Nick Eddy ready for his first start of the season and is looking for improvement from Houston's defensive unit.
"Nick is ready to play this week," Dimel said. "He understands the offense, and has a strong throwing arm. He will experience some growing pains because this is his first start, but we just need for me to settle the internal pressure he is feeling and try not to do too much.
"He has a lot of talent playing around him and I think those guys will pick him up and perform well."
Eddy will replace Kelly Robertson, who started Houston's first four games and threw for a career-high 67 yards last week at Army. Robertson suffered a broken bone in his right wrist against the Black Knights.
Dimel also expects his defensive unit to improve their play as well after giving up over 400 yards and 36 points per game.
"Our defense has to step up and play like we expect them to play," Dimel said. "If we are going to win any games this year, it will be because our defense has stepped up and done their job."
