Cory Houston has joined the University of Houston Baseball program as its coordinator of sports performance.

In that role, Houston – whose last name is pronounced House-ton – will provide programming for individual student-athlete needs, including strength, conditioning and mobility, while working with the Sports Nutrition and Sports Medicine staffs to implement sound nutrition and supplement plans as well as return to play and transitional rehab protocols.

Houston joined the Cougars after serving as strength and conditioning coach for the Tulane Baseball program from 2016 to 2022.

Prior to Tulane, he served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at FIU from 2012 to 2016. There, he designed athletic performance programs for the Baseball, Softball, and Women’s Tennis teams and assisted with the Football program.

A native of Columbus, Miss., Houston began his career as an intern at Mississippi State University as an intern before being promoted into a graduate assistant role with the Football, Baseball, and Tennis teams from 2008 to 2011.

Houston received his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from the University of West Alabama in 2008 and followed with a master’s degree in physical education in 2009. He later received a second master’s degree in exercise science at Mississippi State in 2011.

As an undergraduate, Houston played baseball at West Alabama from 2005 to 2008. He was a member of teams which competed in three NCAA Division II Regionals and never won fewer than 41 games in any season.

His Tiger teams also captured the 2005 Gulf South Conference Tournament championship as well as the league’s 2007 East Division title.

He is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).

Houston and his wife, Eliana, have two children, Grace and Cameron.
