Meshu Negga joined the University of Houston Men’s Basketball program in 2014.
He started as associate director of operations and served in that role for three years before being promoted to his title as director of operations in 2017. Negga was elevated to his current title as senior director of basketball operations & strategy in August 2021.
He left the program in September 2021 to accept a position with the G League's Salt Lake City Stars.
Working closely with Head Coach Kelvin Sampson, Negga’s primary responsibilities for the program include: scheduling games, coordinating team travel, managing the program’s budget, organizing day-to-day schedules and other operational duties. Negga also serves as liaison for the program to the Athletics Department and the University.
Since 2014, Negga has been an integral part of the resurgence of the Houston Basketball program. The Cougars have won 20+ games in six consecutive seasons, a first in program history, captured back-to-back American Athletic Conference championships for only the second time in school history and won the 2021 American Athletic Conference Championship title.
The Cougars enjoyed NCAA Tournament appearances in 2021, 2018 and 2019, with a Final Four berth in 2021 and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2019.
The program has also reached national prominence by being ranked in the Top 25 in the final Associated Press and Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll for four consecutive years, including a No. 3 finish in the 2021 Coaches poll.
Negga is no stranger to the University of Houston. He has worked in a variety of roles prior to the Men’s Basketball program, with the Business Office, Facilities & Operations and Information Technology. He served four years in the Business Office as assistant business manager.
Negga received his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Houston in 2014.
