Darren Mustin joined the Houston Cougars Strength and Conditioning staff in 2024 and assists the football team as Assistant Strength Coach. The 2025 season will be his second with the Cougars.
Mustin joined the Cougars from Tennessee State where he was a Head Sports Performance coach for three years working with various sports for the Tigers.
Prior to arriving at Tennessee State, Mustin made various stops at USC, UMass, Nebraska, Dartmouth and Army.
Mustin also spent time with D1 Sports Training as its certified strength and speed coach (2008-10), facility coordinator, and head strength and speed coach (2012-13), and served as the head strength coach for the NFL Combine training (2013).
A former linebacker at Middle Tennessee State, Mustin then spent two seasons at Alabama (2006-07), serving as a co-captain in 2007 and earned the team’s Most Inspirational and Bear Bryant awards.
Mustin received his bachelor’s degree in human environmental studies from Alabama in 2007 and then graduated with master's in education from Tennessee State in 2023.
