• The 2023 season will be the third with Houston and second as secondary coach for David Rowe after coaching cornerbacks in 2021.
• In two seasons with the Cougars, Rowe has tutored three All-American Athletic Conference selections including seniors Art Green and Gervarrius Owens who earned second-team honors in 2022. Owens graded out as The American's top safety (82.5) and top cover safety (87.6) according to PFF after registering eight pass breakups and 74 total tackles during 2022.
• Since Rowe's arrival in 2021, the Cougars are tied for The American lead with three pick six's. In 2022, Alex Hogan, who missed seven games with a knee injury, logged 10 passes defended in his first six games -- those most through UH's first six games of a season since William Jackson III had 12 in 2015.
• Defensive back Jayce Rogers, who was named all-conference honorable mention as a return specialist, finished second in the league with three interceptions.
• In 2021, the Cougars finished 18th in passing yards allowed per game, surrendering just 194 yards per contest. The Cougars also finished eighth nationally, limiting opponents to a 55.2 completion %.
• Senior cornerback Marcus Jones recorded five interceptions which led the American Athletic Conference in addition to finishing third nationally. Jones was named second-team all-conference.
• Rowe spent his previous two seasons at Central Michigan as the secondary coach. Under his tutelage Rowe developed safety Willie Reid, who led the MAC with three interceptions during the 2020 season.
• Reid earned First Team All-MAC honors, while fellow safety Devonni Reed was named to All-MAC second team last year. The Chippewas ranked second in the MAC with eight interceptions in 2020.
• In 2019, Rowe oversaw a secondary that picked up 12 interceptions as CMU made a remarkable turnaround, finishing 8-6 overall after posting a 1-11 record in 2018. The Chippewas won the 2019 MAC West Division title, made its first MAC Championship game appearance in 10 seasons and played in the 2019 New Mexico Bowl.
• Before arriving at CMU, Rowe served as the defensive backs coach at Valdosta State, helping the Blazers to a 14-0 record, the NCAA Division II National Championship, and the Gulf South Conference title in 2018. Rowe’s group ranked eighth in Division II in interceptions and ninth in red zone defense that season.
• Rowe joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013 as a part of the Bill Walsh Minority Internship program. The four-month internship led to a defensive coaching assistant position with the Buccaneers.
• He has also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Western Michigan (2014-15) and as the defensive coordinator at Rockledge (Fla.) High School from 2015-17.
• Rowe was a three-year starter in the secondary for Rutgers from 2008-11. He earned a bachelor’s degree with a major in communications in 2012.
• Rowe is married to Corissa Rowe. He is the brother of James Rowe who spent the 2022 season as the Chicago Bears' defensive backs coach.
