Cory VanAllen, a former professional baseball player who played collegiately at Baylor, assumed the new role of Director of Player Development on July 28, 2017, after serving as a manager the last two seasons while completing his undergraduate degree.
In the role as Director of Player Development, VanAllen oversees day-to-day duties within the program and assist in a variety of rules in the development of the student-athletes.
VanAllen helped the Cougars to a 2018 and 2017 Championship season that featured a regular-season conference championship in back-to-back years and a tournament title in 2017. Houston has also earned two NCAA Regional bids since his arrival in this role.
Prior to coming on board at Houston, VanAllen played professionally for the Sugar Land Skeeters from April 2014 to October 2015. A native of Sugar Land, Texas, VanAllen returned to his hometown after a spending the previous seven years playing professionally in the Washington Nationals organization.
Drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 5th round of the 2006 MLB First-Year Player Draft, VanAllen played seven seasons, having spent the 2012 season with Triple-A Syracuse.
VanAllen was an All-Conference pitcher at Baylor from 2003-06, where he earned numerous postseason honors and notched his name into the Baylor records book. A local product out of Clements High School in Sugar Land, Texas, VanAllen was a 3rd round draft selection in 2003 by the Los Angeles Dodgers out of high school but chose to attend Baylor.
VanAllen earned a bachelor's degree in organizational leadership and supervision with a focus in kinesiology from the University of Houston in 2017. VanAllen and wife Catrina have a daughter, Easton.
