With more than 25 years of experience in the Houston sports market, University of Houston alum David Tagliarino was been named deputy athletics director at his alma mater on Jan. 25, 2018.
Tagliarino, UH class of 1993, arrived on Cullen Boulevard after six years as Chief Operating Officer/Senior Vice President for Forever Orange, LLC, where he was responsible for the leadership, oversight, and management of day-to-day operational aspects for the organization’s five companies: the Houston Dynamo, the Houston Dash, BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston Sports Park and Dynamo Charities.
While at Forever Orange, Tagliarino was a member of the organization’s senior management team and was responsible for designing and instituting necessary business plans, strategies and initiatives across the enterprise in addition to managing more than 400 full-time and part-time employees and a multi-million operating budget.
Tagliarino joined the Houston Dynamo organization as Senior Vice President in February 2012, overseeing the team’s communications, marketing and sponsorship services departments before being promoted to his latest role in 2014 when his added responsibilities included overseeing all finance and accounting operation, information technology, human resources, legal, box office operations and facility operations among other key duties.
Prior to his role with Forever Orange, Tagliarino served as the director of sports marketing & sponsorship sales at SMG-NRG Park from 2001-12 when he was responsible for overseeing all new corporate sponsorship business as well as securing, negotiating and managing the company’s sports marketing initiatives.
During his time at NRG Park, he assisted in securing and/or managing some of the most-high profile sporting events, including the 2002 and 2005 Big 12 Football Championships, Super Bowl XXXVIII, 2008, 2010 and 2015 NCAA Men’s Basketball Regional Tournaments and the 2011 and 2016 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four Tournament events.
Tagliarino began his career in 1992 working as the Houston Rockets’ marketing, promotions and special events manager, where he assisted and managed various areas from game operations and special events to marketing and promotions initiatives for the organization.
After the Rockets’ first NBA Championship in 1994, Tagliarino joined the expansion hockey franchise, the Houston Aeros. During his five-year tenure with the Aeros, he served as director of community relations and executive director for the Houston Aeros Charities, the organization’s non-profit foundation.
Receiving many accolades and awards for his outstanding work in the Houston community and for the International Hockey League, Tagliarino joined the Tampa Bay Lightning’s front office to serve in similar roles and responsibilities. His commitment and passion were quickly recognized as the Lightning received national acclaim while finishing runner-up for the "1999 Pro Team" Award, which recognizes sports franchises for their outstanding work within their communities.
