Chase McCarty’s Career-high Leads #7/6 Cougars Past Cowboys

Redshirt freshman guard Chase McCarty records career-high 20 points on 6-9 3-pointers
STILLWATER, Okla. – Powered by a career-high 20 points on 6 of 9 3-pointers from redshirt freshman Chase McCarty, the No. 7/6 University of Houston Men's Basketball team rallied to beat Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
With today's win over Oklahoma State (18-13, 6-12 Big 12), Houston (26-5, 14-4 Big 12) clinched the #2 seed on the Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament. The Cougar will tip of postseason action at 6 p.m. Thursday in Quarterfinals with an opponent to be determined.
Houston scored the first five points of the game before Oklahoma State eight straight powered by a pair of 3-pointers by Anthony Roy.
The two teams traded buckets for much of the first half before the Cowboys used a 7-0 run to go up 12 with just under seven minutes to play.
The Cougars clawed their way back, cutting the deficit to four thanks to a jumper from freshman guard Kingston Flemings and a 3-pointer from McCarty just before the half.
Houston tied the game at 44 early in the second half with a bucket from freshman forward Chris Cenac and a 3-pointer by senior guard Milos Uzan. Oklahoma State responded with five-straight points, but back-to-back triples from McCarty and Uzan gave the Cougars their first lead since it was 5-4.
The two squads went blow for blow before the Cougars used a 10-0 run to surge ahead with just under 4 ½ minutes remaining.
Oklahoma State cut into the Cougars' eight-point lead, but back-to-back triples from senior guard Emanuel Sharp and McCarty with 36 seconds remaining sealed the game for the Cougars.
Roy finished with 18 points on 4 of 11 from 3-point range while Kanye Clary chipped in 14 points on 4 of 7 from distance for the Cowboys.
Flemings scored 13 points and dished nine assists while junior forward Joseph Tugler added 12 points and a team-leading six rebounds.
