Cougars’ comeback attempt falls short, 4-3

HOUSTON — The #36 University of Houston Tennis team dropped its second-straight attempted comeback, 4-3, to #30 Texas Tech on Friday afternoon at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.

Houston (11-3, 2-3 Big 12) dropped its third-straight doubles point when Mariia Klahola and Elena Daskalova defeated juniors Iva Sepa and Valeriia Krokhotina, 6-3, on court 2.

Texas Tech (13-4, 4-1 Big 12) clinched the doubles point as #55 Hailey Murphy and Kate Dmitrichenko took down #89 Sophie Schouten and Chems Doha Zeghlouli, 6-4, on court one.

The Red Raiders added back-to-back points on courts one and two as Murphy took care of junior Elizaveta Morozova, 6-3, 6-3 and Dmitrichenko bested Zeghlouli, 6-2, 6-2.

Sepa put the Cougars on the board as she defeated Hlahola, 6-1, 6-4. Krokhotina followed by taking down Polina Sleptova, 6-4, 6-4.

Schouten tied the match on court six when she took down Ella Brownback, 6-3, 6-2.

After facing two match points, junior Petja Drame fought back to tie the match at five before pushing ahead 6-5. Tech's Havana Kadi forced the 7-point tiebreaker, clinching the match 7(8)-6(6).
