Tennis Wraps Opening Weekend with Sweep Over LMU

Cougars open season with three-straight sweeps for first time since 1990

LOS ANGELES — The University of Houston Tennis team continued its opening weekend dominance with a 4-0 sweep of LMU at the LMU Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.

The Cougars (3-0) opened the season with three-straight sweeps for the first time since 1990 when they swept UTSA, North Texas and Lamar. Houston had never swept three straight opponents on the road to open a season.

Houston and LMU (1-2) battled for the doubles point as the Lions took court two to take an early advantage.

After being up early, seniors Sophie Schouten and Chems Doha Zeghlouli fought to a 7-6 win on court one against Anastasia Bozova and Ada Piestrzynska before juniors Petja Drame and Elizaveta Morozova took the deciding court over Camilia Samel-Druz and Kim-Michaela Zahraj, 7-6 to give the Cougars the early advantage.

Schouten made quick work of Samel-Druz on court six with a 6-0, 6-3 victory and Zeghlouli defeated Sofia Perovani with a pair of 6-2 set victories.

The Cougars took all six first sets, but Drame was the final one to the finish line as she held off Piestrzynska, 6-2, 6-4 on court three to claim the match for Houston.
