Cougars sweeps North Texas and UT Arlington, 4-0

ARLINGTON, Texas — The University of Houston Tennis team continued its dominate start to the season sweeping North Texas and UT Arlington on Thursday at Waranch Tennis Complex and UTA Tennis Center.

Houston (5-0) opened the day with a 4-0 sweep of North Texas (0-1), before dominating UT Arlington (0-1) in the afternoon.

The Cougars are 5-0 for the first time since 2018 and have swept their first five opponents for the first time in program history. Houston extends its season opening sweep streak to five matches.

After the Mean Green took the opening doubles court, the Cougars pounced to take the doubles point with a pair of 6-3 victories from juniors Iva Sepa and Valeriia Krokhotina on court two and juniors Elizaveta Morozova and Petja Drame on court three.

Senior Sophie Schouten continued her winning ways on court six in singles as she defeated Marina Adati, 6-0, 6-4.

Sepa cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ujin Batsukh on court three before Krokhotina clinched the match on court five as she defeated Lilly Schultz, 7-5, 6-1.

The Cougars made quick work of the Mavericks in doubles as Schouten and senior Chems Doha Zeghlouli cruised to a 6-1 win over Vanja Cado and Elizaveta Mladentseva on court one, and Krokhotina and Sepa defeated Sofia Selle and Diana Kaibara, 6-2, on court two.

Houston dominated its opponents in singles as Morozova allowed just one point to Cado on court one, winning 6-0, 6-1.

Krokhotina skated to a pair of 6-1 set victories over Flora Farkaslaki on court five, and freshman Alexia Lavinia Puiac earned her first collegiate victory over Natalia Gonzalez on court two, 6-1, 6-1.
