Women’s Basketball Comes up Short at #17/18 Texas Tech

TK Pitts leads Cougars with 17 points, Amirah Abdur-Rahim posts career-high 14 rebounds
LUBBOCK, Texas – With 17 points from senior guard TK Pitts, the University of Houston Women's Basketball team fell 71-59 against #17/#18 Texas Tech inside the United Supermarkets Arena on Tuesday evening.
Pitts led the Cougars (6-11, 0-6 Big 12) in scoring with 17 points paired with six steals for her eighth double-digit outing this season. Freshman guard Kayla King tied her career high with 11 points while graduate forward Amirah Abdur-Rahim notched a career high 14 rebounds on the night.
Texas Tech (19-0, 6-0 Big 12) extended its undefeated streak to 19 games with senior guard Bailey Maupin leading the team with 19 points.
After a slow offensive start, Houston kept it close by trailing 7-6 at the media break. Texas Tech began hitting shots late in the period to lead 16-9 after one.
An 11-3 run by the Lady Raiders created some distance early in the second. The Cougars battled back and trimmed the deficit down to four at 34-30 with 1:01 remaining. Two Texas Tech 3-pointers gave the Lady Raiders a double-digit cushion at the end of the frame, 40-30.
The Cougars opened the third quarter with a 10-4 run to cut into the deficit at 44-40. The Lady Raiders pushed back to regain a double-digit lead, leading 57-46 at the end of the quarter.
The fourth quarter saw both teams take frequent trips to the charity stripe. The Cougars continued to flirt with a comeback bid after trailing by seven at 63-56. Texas Tech pulled away and secured the victory to remain unbeaten.
