Houston recorded eight goals from eight different goal scorers
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Soccer team dominated McNeese with a 8-0 victory on Thursday evening at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
The Cougars' (4-0-1) eight goals are the most since they scored eight in the COVID spring season against Texas Southern (Feb. 10, 2021).
Senior Morgan Donohue got the scoring going in the third minute as she sank her second goal of the season from just inside the penalty box.
Sophomore Amanda Adams found the back of the net for the first time in her career when junior Kyrsten Kizer found her in space in the 15th minute.
Houston cashed in on a corner kick when freshman Madyson Bentil found fellow freshman Amaris Bumba in the 33rd minute.
Junior Adelhia Ghonda scored her fourth goal of the season when she received a cross from freshman Nadia Ortiz in the 44th minute.
Houston didn't let up in the second half as redshirt junior Peyton Machado delivered a beautiful cross and sophomore Casey Maddox poked it in the back of the net in the 54th minute.
In the 64th minute, senior Cameryn Maddox delivered a sliding assist to sophomore Savannah Tafireyi to make it 6-0.
Another Cougar newcomer tallied her first career goal as freshman Samira Minor's throw-in led to a goal from freshman Madyson Bentil in the 77th minute.
Cameryn Maddox cashed in on her second penalty kick of the season in the 86th minute to seal an 8-0 victory for the Cougars.
The Houston defense pitched its fourth shutout of the season and has only allowed one goal through its first five matches for the first time in program history.
UP NEXT
The Cougars travel to Nacogdoches, Texas to face SFA at 7 p.m., Sunday at SFA Soccer Field. Houston then returns home to wrap up its non conference schedule and to celebrate eight seniors against UTRGV at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 11.
