Cougars open Big 12 Conference play with win for first time since joining the league
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Soccer team opened Big 12 Conference action with a 3-1 victory over Cincinnati on Thursday evening at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
Houston (6-0-2, 1-0) opens Big 12 action with a win for the first time since joining the league in 2023.
The Cougars again tallied double-figure shots with 15 on the night, while holding Cincinnati (2-3-4, 0-1) to three shots, all in the second half. Houston has recorded double-digit shots in every match this season.
After a rocky start, junior Ava Shannon settled the Cougars down, opening the scoring in the 33rd minute as junior Adelhia Ghonda found Shannon in space.
Freshman Samira Minor recorded her first career brace when she finished a pair of crosses from sophomore Amanda Adams and senior Cameryn Maddox in the 60th and 72nd minutes, respectively.
The Bearcats ended the Cougars four-match shutout streak when Rylee Felton and Kayla Gaynor found Coley Sidloski in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper in the 74th minute.

Houston gets the weekend off before heading to Lubbock, Texas to face rv Texas Tech on Thursday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m., from John Walker Soccer Complex.
