Houston Drops Extra Inning Affair

Cougars tie game in ninth, drop game in 10 innings
HOUSTON – Junior Coby DeJesus executed with a runner on third base and less than two outs to tie the game in the ninth inning at 3-3 on a sacrifice fly but the Houston Baseball team ultimately fell in extra innings to McNeese 4-3 on Wednesday night at Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park.
Center fielder Tre Broussard collected his second consecutive 3+ hit game with a double to push his average to .304 on the season. The Houston native stole two bases, pushing his season total to 26 and is on pace for 43 stolen bases which would shatter the school record of 36 from 1969 set by Trey Williams. The 26 stolen bases is the most by a Cougar since 2017 when current Boston Red Sox Connor Wong stole 26 bags.
Sophomore Alex Solis pitched 5.0 strong innings with his second 5+ strikeout start of the season. The right-handed pitcher allowed just two hits and one run. The Weslaco, Texas, native did not factor into the decision.
Houston (19-14) led 1-0 when Broussard pulled a double down the right field corner, scoring senior Aaron Lugo from first base.
McNeese (24-5) took the lead in the sixth with a three-run double by left fielder Larry Edwards Jr. The left fielder would later rob Broussard of a lead-off extra-base hit in the 10th.
The Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on DeJesus' sacrifice fly but left the winning run at third base in the inning.
UP NEXT
Houston hosts a Big 12 Conference series against West Virginia Friday-Sunday. The Saturday game against West Virginia is Alumni/Former Player Reunion Day while the entirety of the series is Bark in Park – we hope to see all the pups at the yard.
