Four Early Runs Backed by Scinta, Jean

WACO, Texas – Behind a two-headed left-handed pitching monster of Chris Scinta and Antoine Jean, the Houston Baseball team held the Baylor Bears to just two runs in its 4-2 win on Sunday to clinch the Cougars fourth road series win of the season.

Jean (3) struck out eight of the nine outs he recorded to earn his third save of the season and second of the weekend after pitching 3.0 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and one walk. The Montreal, Canada, native struck out 13 of his 15 outs in 5.0 innings of work over two appearances on the weekend.

Houston (18-13, 5-7 Big 12) scored a pair of runs in the first and second innings on RBI hits off the bats of sophomore Xavier Perez (two RBI), sophomore Tre Broussard and senior Aaron Lugo.

The Cougars never trailed in the game thanks to the two two-run first and second innings.

Scinta (4-1) pitched the middle four innings for Houston allowing just three baserunners while striking out a pair.

Houston's two lefty arms spun 7.0 innings of four-hit work while combining for 10 strikeouts.

Baylor (21-10, 5-7 Big 12) scored singular runs in the bottom half of the first and second innings, collecting five of its nine hits in the first two frames before the two-headed monster of Houston's bullpen scattered the four hits across seven innings.

Houston heads home for a five-game homestand within a six-day window taking on Rice on Tuesday at Schroeder Park before a Wednesday tilt against McNeese and a weekend series against West Virginia.
