Lugo drives in run, bullpen works 4.2 scoreless innings
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Houston bullpen worked 4.2 scoreless innings but the Cougars ultimately dropped the series opener on Friday night at Kansas State 5-2.

Andres Perez and Chris Scinta combined for 4.2 scoreless relief innings. Perez worked a career-high 3.1 innings while allowing just one hit before giving way to Scinta's 1.1 scoreless innings.

Third baseman Aaron Lugo drove in Houston's (22-19, 6-12 Big 12) first run of the game in the third inning. The Cougars scored their second run on a balk in the sixth inning that led to the Kansas State (25-17, 11-8 Big 12) head coach getting ejected.

Neither team rattled off a bunch of hits, with the two combining for 10 hits in the game. Lugo, right fielder Xavier Perez and center fielder Tre Broussard, Houston's two-three-four hitters sprayed singles with nine-hole hitter Tyler Cox tacking on the Cougars' fourth hit.

Two walks set up a Kansas State three-run home run in the second inning. A ground out in the third and a couple of doubles in the fourth added a pair of runs for the hosts.
