Team Win Encapsulated with Double-Digit Run Production

HOUSTON – For the third straight Tuesday, the Houston Baseball team scored double-digit runs beating Lamar 11-6 at Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park.

Facing his former team, senior Andres Perez (1-1) entered with the bases loaded and escaped without giving up a run to earn his first win as a Cougar. Perez worked 1.2 innings and was one of four Cougars with two strikeouts.

In his first career start at designated hitter, sophomore Anthony Avalos put together his first-career three-hit game while tying a career-high with two runs scored. Avalos was one of four Cougars to score multiple runs. The Pearland, Texas, native's three hits led all hitters while third baseman Aaron Lugo's three runs paced all players. Lugo reached base five times with a pair of hits.

Eight of Houston's (22-18) 10 hitters to record plate appearances walked for a total of 11 walks while all 10 players reached base.

Shortstop Tyler Cox drove in a game-high three RBI while his middle infield partner Coby DeJesus pushed two across on his first inning base hit.

Catcher Riley Jackson joined the middle infielders with his second-career multi-RBI game.

Lamar (32-11) used 12 pitchers over the game with no pitcher working more than 1.1 innings and only five recording at least three outs.

The Cardinals scored four in the fourth inning to cut Houston's lead to two runs but the Cougars matched the visitors with a four-spot of their own to push the lead back to six runs, 10-4.

UP NEXT
The Cougars return to the road to play a Big 12 Conference series at Kansas State Friday-Sunday. Sunday's game has been moved up to 11 a.m. All three games will stream on ESPN+.
