Jean strikes out all six batters faced
Houston (19-16, 5-9 Big 12) honored its historic past with recognitions of the 1985, 2000 and 2015 Houston Baseball team's by hitting a pair of home runs and striking out 14 Mountaineers but were unable to tie the game late. The eight runs scored by Houston is the most scored by the Cougars in a Big 12 Conference game this year.
Senior Antoine Jean continued his spectacular swan song season with another multi-strikeout scoreless appearance out of the bullpen. The southpaw struck out six over 2.0 innings while allowing just one hit.
Junior Coby DeJesus helped post a crooked number in the first inning with his first home run of the year. The two-run shot capped the Cougars' three-run first inning.
Senior Malachi Lott smoked a 100-mph home run in the fifth inning to plate three in Houston's second three-run inning. The home run helped Houston pull within two runs.
West Virginia (29-4, 9-3 Big 12) scored three runs in the second and a pair of runs in each of the third through fifth innings to take a 9-4 lead.
The Mountaineers defense stayed alert in the eighth inning when the Cougars tried to score the tying run from second on an infield single off the bat of sophomore Tre Broussard.
DeJesus and sophomore Xavier Perez each had two-hit days while junior Kenneth Jimenez reached base three times via walk.
