Houston starter pitches quality start in loss, Lugo drives in lone run

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Houston Baseball team dropped its Saturday night matchup at UCF, 7-1, at John Euliano Park to set up a winner-take-all rubber match on Sunday at Noon CT.

Sophomore Richie Roman (0-3) provided arguably his best collegiate start going 6.0 innings with seven strikeouts while allowing just two runs. The right hander got stuck with the bad luck loss after spinning a quality start on the road.

Houston (12-10, 1-4 Big 12) scored first on an RBI double off the bat of senior third baseman Aaron Lugo in the second inning but scattered just five hits in the game.

UCF (17-5, 3-2 Big 12) scored two in the bottom of the second to take the lead before Roman set down nine of the next 10 he faced.

The Knights broke it open in the eighth with a five-run frame on two hits and weren't threatened even with Houston walking three times in the ninth.
