McGinnis extends hit streak to 12 games
Texas Tech (5-11, 2-0 Big 12) opened the game scoring 11 runs over the first three innings, plating two in the first, four in the second and five in the third.
Houston (11-6, 0-2 Big 12) tied the ball game in the bottom of the first inning, at 2-2, on an RBI single and a Texas Tech fielding error before pulling within three runs in the fourth thanks to a six-run frame.
Four straight hits helped Houston push six runs across in the fourth inning as part of a five-hit inning to pull within three runs of Texas Tech.
Pinch hitter Jake Tatom drove in a run on a single, defensive replacement Coby DeJesus doubled down the left field line for an RBI double, center fielder Tre Broussard singled in a pair and pinch hitter Malachi Lott turned on a 3-0 pitch for a two-run home run to pull the Cougars within three.
The Red Raiders scored singular runs in the sixth and ninth innings.
Second baseman Connor McGinnis extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a two-hit game.

Houston will look to salvage game three of the series against Texas Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Schroeder Park on ESPN+.
