Red Raiders Slow Cougars

HOUSTON – The Houston Baseball team dropped its Big 12 Conference opener to Texas Tech, 4-1, on Friday night at Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park.

Texas Tech (4-11, 1-0 Big 12) sprayed 10 hits around the yard, all singles, and scored singular runs in four different innings. The Houston (11-5, 0-1 Big 12) pitchers did not allow an extra-base hit for the first time this season. The 10 singles allowed marks the first time Houston has allowed 10+ hits without giving up an extra-base hit in a game since April 25, 2023 against Lamar in which the Cougars allowed 12 singles.

Second baseman Connor McGinnis clubbed his fourth home run of the year for Houston's (11-5) lone hit of the night.

Senior Antoine Jean pitched four innings in relief and struck out six Red Raiders. Jean has struck out five-plus in five appearances.
