Court three duo Sophie Schouten and Gabriela Cortes pick up ranked doubles win
DALLAS – The University of Houston Tennis team fell, 4-2, to SMU on Friday afternoon at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Center.
SMU (4-4) jumped in front on court two when Ellie Pittman and Sophie Llewellyn swept sophomore Iva Sepa and Valeriia Krokhotina, 6-0.
Houston (3-2) fifth-year Santa Strombacha and sophomore Elizaveta Morozova defeated June Bjork and Caroline McGinley, 6-1 before juniors Sophie Schouten and Gabriela Cortes knocked off #84 Drew Morris and Arianna Stavropoulos, 6-2, to claim the doubles points.
Pittman evened the match for the Mustangs with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sepa on court two.
Strombacha put the Cougars back in front with a win on court one as she defeated Llewellyn, 6-2, 6-2.
The Mustangs scored back-to-back points on courts three and four when Morris defeated sophomore Heta Nuutinen, 6-2, 6-4, and Stavropoulos bested Morozova, 7-5, 6-3.
Court six needed all three sets to clinch as Millie Skelton defeated Krokhotina, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.
After dropping the first set via a 7-6(2) tiebreaker, Schouten won the second set, 6-4, and led the deciding set, 2-1, before the match was called.
