Cougar Softball Stadium receives safety, fan experience and team development enhancements
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball program and its partners are excited to announce enhancements to Cougar Softball Stadium in advance of the 2025 season which begins on Friday.
Â
Concessions
Highlighting new concessions options this season includes a BBQ sandwich combo available at all games. For select matchups, a variety of additional options will be accessible, including multiple food trucks. Among the visiting vendors (available at select games) include Allseason Eat's, Gameday Pretzels and Lemon King lemonade.Â
Â
Fan Experience
Cougar Softball Stadium will feature a new speaker system for the 2025 season. The audio system, installed underneath the bleacher coverings above the concourse, will provide fans clearer acoustics for both in-venue music and public address announcements.
Â
Team Development
Beginning in late February, the team will have access to YakkerTech, a player development system that tracks multiple datapoints surrounding softballs in flight, including, for hitters, launch angle and exit velocity and, for pitchers, movement and spin rates. The data allows coaching staff to better track player development with key insights into both pitching and hitting trajectories.Â
Â
YakkerTech, a product of Magnus, is already in use at stadiums around the country at all levels. In addition to partnerships with Major League Baseball and Athletes Unlimited, schools from every power conference have adopted YakkerTech, bringing their total client base to 40+ schools, including each of the last 13 NCAA Softball National Champions.
Â
Facility Improvements
In line with the recent addition of pitch time rules to NCAA Softball, Cougar Softball Stadium will be adding visible pitch clocks midseason for both fans and players. Two pitch clocks will be added to the facility early in the season: one below the scoreboard in left field and one affixed to the press box. Per NCAA rules, pitchers have 20 seconds to begin their windup while batters must be in the box to receive the pitch at the 10 second mark.Â
Â
Additionally, the safety netting surrounding the seats immediately behind home plate has been replaced with new, upgraded netting. The netting is also used in Major League Baseball stadiums and while also offering enhanced safety for fans, offer improved sight-lines for spectators as well.Â
Â
