
Maurina Breaks School Record at Big 12 Track & Field Indoor Championship

Invida Maurina highlights Friday action with program best time in the women's 600-yards
LUBBOCK, Texas – Freshman Invida Maurina broke the school record in the women's 600-yards to kick off action for the University of Houston Track & Field program at the 2025 Big 12 Indoor Championship on Friday at the Sports Performance Complex.
A total of 19 personal bests were set and eight Cougars secured spots in Saturday's finals including Maurina with her school record and personal best time of 1:20.34.
Graduate Caleb Malbrough and junior Christopher Johnson collected the first points of the weekend for the men in the long jump. Malbrough placed fifth with his mark of 7.41m (24-3.75) while Johnson recorded a personal best mark of 7.31m (23-11.75) for eighth place as both jumpers combined for a total of five points.
Junior Kaycee McCoy secured her spot in the women's 60-meter hurdles final by winning her heat at 8.21 and currently sits in fifth place ahead of Saturday's final.
Two Cougars advanced to the men's 60-meter hurdles with personal bests as senior Jamar Marshall Jr. won his heat at 7.57 for second overall. Junior Anthony Trucks finished seventh and is now tied for third on Houston's all-time list with his time of 7.71.
Senior John Adesola earned his qualification to the men's 60-meter with a personal best time of 6.58 and moved to fifth in program history. Graduate Shaun Maswanganyi made his indoor debut and secured a spot in the final with a time of 6.67.
Senior Adam Mason set a personal best and secured his spot in the men's 600-yard final with his time of 1:08.11. Mason enters Saturday's final with the third-best overall mark in the event.
Senior Brice Chabot secured the final ticket of the evening to Saturday's 200-meter final with a time of 20.98.
SATURDAY'S EVENTS
Freshmen Colton Harrison, Owen Levesque and senior Grant Levesque will conclude action in the men's heptathlon with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000m scheduled for Saturday. Grant Levesque is currently in fifth place with 3,127 points, Owen Levesque is in 11th place with 2,851 points and Harrison in 18th place with 2,501 points.
The Cougars are set to compete in five field events beginning with the women's shot put, men's triple jump, men's and women's high jump and men's shot put.
Eight running events remain for Houston with the men's and women's 60m hurdles, men's 60m, men's and women's 600-yards, men's 200-meter and the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays.
