PREVIEW: Track & Field Prepares for Big 12 Indoor Championship

Houston will compete on Friday, Saturday for Conference Championship
LUBBOCK, Texas – The University of Houston Track and Field program heads to Lubbock for the Big 12 Indoor Conference Championship on Friday and Saturday hosted by Texas Tech at the Sports Performance Center.
EVENT SQUAD RANKINGS
Six of Houston's event squads rank in the nation's top 20.
With an indoor season of eligibility remaining, the Cougars welcome back 2024 Olympic Silver Medalist and 15-time NCAA All-American, Shaun Maswanganyi. Maswanganyi will compete in the 60-meter and 200-meter this weekend.
At the 2024 Big 12 Indoor Championship, Maswanganyi placed second in both of his respective events.
KeAYLA THROWS
KeAyla Dove led the women's squad, shattering multiple records in the shot put. At the Howie Ryan Invitational, the graduate thrower extended her school record and set a facility and meet record with a career-best throw of 19.46m (63-10.25).
Dove was named the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week following her performance at the Howie Ryan Invitational. This marked Houston's first conference weekly award this season and second all-time Big 12 Track & Field Athlete of Week accolade. De'Vion Wilson earned the first weekly award in program history on May 1, 2024.
She currently ranks first in the nation, first in the Big 12 and holds the third-best mark in NCAA indoor history. Last weekend, Dove competed in the 2025 USATF Indoor Championships, finishing fourth overall.
TOP 10 PROGRAM TIMES/MARKS
Houston had 16 new marks on the Top-10 program list, including a school record in the women's shot put set by Dove.
Sophomore Antrea Mita broke his personal best in the men's high jump, clearing 2.26m (7-5.00) at the Howie Ryan Invitational. His jump is the second-best mark in the nation this season and ranks third all-time in Houston's indoor history, surpassing Scott Budnick's 1984 record of 2.25m (7-4.50).
Freshman Evina Panagiotou secured second on Houston's all-time list with a personal best of 4.17m (13-8.25) in the women's pole vault. Sophomore Laney Kucera moved up to sixth with a personal best mark of 3.96m (12-11.75) while freshman Kaylee Daniel wrote her name in the record books with a mark of 3.93m (12-10.75) for seventh. Junior Aubrey Tupper improved her mark to 3.83m (12-6.75) for eighth place.
Junior Kaycee McCoy dominated the women's 60-meter hurdles, clocking a personal-best 8.16 to secure the fifth-fastest time in program history.
Freshman Invida Maurina made a statement in her collegiate debut, winning the 600-yard dash in 1:21.35—just 0.02 seconds shy of the program record for second in program history. Freshman Kali Magana added her name to record books with the fifth fastest time at 1:25.72.
Junior Ali Mack recorded a personal-best 3,653 points in the women's pentathlon, moving to seventh on Houston's all-time indoor performance list.
Jamar Marshall Jr. continued his dominance in the men's 60-meter hurdles, tying his personal best of 7.59 to claim his second win of the season. His time set a facility and meet record and is the fifth-fastest in the nation.
Kali Magaña clocked 1:25.36 in the women's 600-yard race, earning the sixth-best time in program history.
John Adesola ran a personal-best 6.65 in the men's 60-meter dash at the Charlie Thomas Invitational, tying for eighth on Houston's all-time indoor performance list.
ROAD TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Top 16 competitors in the national rankings in each event will qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships, held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va., March 14-15.
Dove (1st, women's shot put), Mita (2nd, men's high jump), My'Kell Beck (12th, men's high jump) and Jamar Marshall Jr. (9th, 60-meter hurdles) currently rank in the top 16 for the Cougars.
