
Cougars Fall to Louisiana; Game Against Kansas City Canceled

Houston can’t contain late surge from Ragin’ Cajun; Nightcap canceled
LAFAYETTE, La. – The University of Houston Softball team suffered a late 8-7 comeback loss to Louisiana on Saturday afternoon at Lamson Park. Due to inclement weather and field conditions, the originally scheduled nightcap against Kansas City was canceled and will not be rescheduled.Â

Sophomore Gigi Solis (2-1) took the loss in the circle for Houston (9-4) after entering in the bottom of the fourth in relief. The Pearland, Texas, native tossed 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Louisiana's (7-4) Bethaney Noble (1-2) picked up the victory after spinning 3.2 innings and giving up two runs while striking out seven.Â

3rd | After Louisiana took a 3-0 lead with a pair of homers in the first and an RBI single in the second, Houston answered in the third. Sophomore Jordee Wilkins hit her second triple of the season to get 60 feet away and scored as Cintron singled through the right side to cut the deficit to two.

4th | Houston continued to score in the fourth. A fielder's choice, single and walk loaded the bases for junior Gabby Rawls, who doubled home sophomore Mikalah Nitta and freshman Madox Mitchael to even the score, leaving a pair of runners in scoring position. Two batters later, Hartley put the Cougars in front with a three-run homer to left field, her fourth of the year.

The Ragin' Cajun answered in the bottom of the inning. Three straight singles from Louisiana plated a run while putting runners on first and second. After a walk loaded the bases, a fielder's choice plated another while an error on the play ceded a third, tying the score at 6-6.Â

5th | Houston reclaimed the lead with a solo homerun off the bat of sophomore Makenna Mitchell, an opposite field blast to put the Cougars up 7-6.

7th | After threatening in the sixth, Louisiana secured the win in the bottom of the seventh. A single and pair of walks loaded the bases with one out and Cecilia Vasquez grounded into a fielder's choice that forced the tying run across. The Ragin' Cajun took the win with a single up the middle the scored the decisive runner, giving Louisiana an 8-7 win.Â
